We support employers and universities to develop an apprenticeship specifically for social work.

The apprentice will be awarded with a degree as part of the programme and will be assessed at the end, with the result graded. This apprenticeship was accepted by the professional regulator at the time, HCPC, and by the current regulator, Social Work England.

published by the Institute for Apprenticeships.

Overview

  • no formal entry criteria needed
  • training duration: 36 months
  • a minimum of 20% of the apprentices paid working hours must be spent in off-the-job training.
  • gain 'on-the-job' experience to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviour required to be a competent social worker.
  • end of training assesments will form the final point of their degree.

Apprenticeship funding

Levy paying organisations can use their apprenticeship levy to fund the social worker apprenticeship training and end-point assessment. Non-levy organisations will pay 5% of the agreed cost, with the Government paying the rest.
