This standard explores the need to ensure your own wellbeing as a manager and the need for you to continue your own development.

The registered manager is a vital role within any service without which the service couldn’t operate. So, it’s important to make sure that, amongst everything else, you are taking the time to protect and ensure your own wellbeing, to be effective in your role. To be a manager means to be self-aware, recognise when you are struggling and need support and how to manage your workload so that you can protect your own wellbeing.

This standard also speaks to the need for personal development. Nobody is a perfect employee, and no one is a perfect manager. Being self-aware and reflecting on potential areas of development, then seeking ways to improve is important so that you can continue to develop within your management role to be able to support your team better, to manage your premises better and to provide the best possible care to the people you support.
