We share some of our top tips for ASC-WDS users, helping them to better manage their account and get the most out of it.

The data collected in Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) plays a crucial role in shaping the future of sector and is used by the Government and other key stakeholders to make important decisions about adult social care policy.

Here are our practical suggestions for help you keep on top of your data and make the most of your ASC-WDS account.

  • Add at least two users to your account. Another user can help you to work in ASC-WDS and they provide a point of contact should we not be able to reach your primary user for any reason!
  • Update little and often. Reflect changes in your organisation as they happen and try to update at least quarterly. Staying on top of things will make it easier to manage your account, give you more accurate benchmarks and help CQC in their assessments. The summary panel on the homepage will alert you when there are things that need your attention.
  • Use a ‘parent’ account to manage multiple locations. You can record and manage lots of workplaces using just one account. It’s called a ‘parent’ account and it can help you and others save time adding data to the service across your entire organisation.
  • Explore parts of ASC-WDS that you don’t always use. It’s natural that once you know how to use ASC-WDS, you might just log in and update what you need to, without taking the time to look at any new features or tools. But we’re always iterating the service with improvements and benefits, so it’s worth having a poke around to see what you might be missing. Next time you’re logged in, check out the benchmarks feature, the Benefits Bundle, ASC-WDS news or get your ASC-WDS certificate.
  • Add multiple training records at once. If you’ve sent several staff on the same training course- you can add the detail into ASC-WDS in one go by using the ‘Add multiple training records’ button. You can select which staff attended and you only need to add the detail once.

More information on our ‘Making a difference with data’ campaign and how to get involved can be found on our hub page. If you haven’t already signed up for ASC-WDS, you can find out more here.
