This #GoodNewsFriday celebrates Camphill Village Trust, a social care organisation that supports adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health and complex needs who have reached their 70th anniversary!

This year marks a momentous milestone for Camphill Village Trust, as the social care charity celebrates 70 years of providing support and opportunities for adults living with a learning disability, autism, mental health and complex needs. Incorporated in 1954, with the first community established at Botton Village in 1955, the Trust has remained dedicated to improving the lives of the people they support through meaningful work and community living.

To mark the occasion, Camphill Village Trust has set an ambitious fundraising goal of £70,000 for its 70th anniversary – and they’ve already raised an impressive £30,461.48! These funds will be used to continue creating a life of opportunity for more people being supported, helping them connect with nature, enhance their skills, and live more active and independent lives.

The celebrations have brought together supporters, families, and staff, culminating in a fantastic festival at the Delrow Community. Over 120 attendees gathered to enjoy a day filled with creativity, connection, and celebration. In honour of this milestone, the Trust also embarked on a series of fundraising challenges, beginning with an epic trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Led by CEO Sara Thakkar, along with Directors Claire Twaites and Sally Watts and accompanied b young fundraisers Mia and Alex Lombardi, and Sam and Jack Bennett, the team pushed their limits over eight gruelling days to raise awareness and essential funds for the cause.

Sara, reflecting on the challenge, said:

I have a deep respect for the history of our Charity and a passion for our future. I wanted to do something that pushed all normal boundaries and raise awareness of the challenges that many people with differing support needs face every day.

The Trust's rich history and legacy are being celebrated through various creative projects, including an anniversary quilt and a “Legacy of Leaves” tree, with contributions from each of the Trust’s communities and their supported people. These projects reflect the spirit of unity, diversity, and sustainability that define Camphill Village Trust.

As the charity looks toward the future, its commitment to delivering an ambitious and progressive vision for the people it supports remains unwavering. With over £30,000 already raised, they are well on their way to meeting their £70,000 target, ensuring that many more individuals can benefit from the life-changing opportunities the Trust provides.
