A number of organisations across the country have been hosting various celebrations and awards events for people working in social care. We're delighted to hear all about them for our #CelebratingSocialCare spotlight.

Northants Registered Managers Network event

On 11 March 2022 the Northants Registered Managers Network held a celebration event at Hilton Northampton.

The theme of the event was that of celebration and thanks, with video thank you messages from Jane Townson, Chief Executive of the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Care Association and Vic Rayner, CEO of the National Care Forum.

It included speeches from the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire Morcea Walker MBE, the Director of Adult Social Services at West Northants local authority, and the Stronger Together staff wellbeing hub. There was also an ‘information marketplace’ including stalls hosted by the Northamptonshire Virtual Wellbeing Festival, the University of Northampton, the wellbeing hub, and the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network.

There was plenty of fun to be had, including a free raffle with prizes that included signed books and afternoon tea vouchers, and a wellbeing session with a laughter yoga instructor.

The event received some great feedback, with one attendee saying:

A fabulous day meeting up and connecting - the wellbeing session has had me grinning all the way home. Truly informative day huge thanks to the organisers and sponsors; so much learning.

Another said:

It was so nice to have a little bit of normality back after such a long time and to actually see people in person! I have to say it was a little bit emotional at times but so, so needed.

Jane Borland, registered manager at Rathgar Care ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù in Northampton and chair of the Northamptonshire Registered Managers Network, said:

The network had been holding virtual meetings over the pandemic, but with the restrictions being lifted we thought it would be really nice to have a face-to-face meeting, and my thought was that instead of the sort of meeting that we had normally before the pandemic in our little community centre we should have more of a celebration, an event to say ‘well done, you’ve got through it, this is for you’.

West Sussex Care Accolades

Elsewhere, the West Sussex Care Accolades were held virtually on Thursday 31 March, hosted by West Sussex Partners in Care and supported by West Sussex County Council.

The awards recognised 17 individuals and two care teams as winners and finalists in awards for going ‘the extra mile’ and making a significant difference to the lives of people drawing on care and support across the county.

The event was opened with a message from MP and Minister of State for Care and Mental Health, Gillian Keegan who commented on the exceptional contribution and commitment of all of the nominees and the moving examples of high quality care being provided across West Sussex.

Rosemary Pavoni, Chair of West Sussex Partners in Care said:

It made me so incredibly proud to read this year’s nominations. It has been wonderful to read about how staff have gone above and beyond to care for the people for they support, which has helped them to lead meaningful lives with dignity, compassion and respect. The only challenging part of the accolades has been to choose the finalists as in my eyes everyone is a winner.
