As we continue to support Pride month throughout June, we鈥檝e rounded-up some of the resources available to support you with improving LGBTQ+ inclusivity in the workplace.

LGBTQ+ learning framework

This learning framework for working with LGBTQ+ people in later life aims to provide a base for identifying the insights, knowledge, understanding and skills that the social care workforce need to help them work effectively with individuals from gender and sexually diverse communities.

The framework is intended to be used by social care employers, employees, training providers, regulators, commissioners, policy makers and others to build their own knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues, to support colleagues' understanding, and to create learning programmes which will allow teams to better support LGBTQ+ people in later life.

Recently updated, the framework now includes an additional topic which covers LGBTQ+ religion and spirituality in later life.

LGBTQ+ case studies

Following the launch of the LGBTQ+ learning framework in February 2023, we’ve now launched a series of case studies which highlight some of the impact it has had on the sector. The case studies cover a range of topics and demonstrate how care providers have utilised the framework to make positive changes within their services.

Confident with difference

Our ‘Confident with difference’ resource was developed to provide care services with the opportunity to consider how well they currently embrace diversity within their organisation. The resource consists of 4 short films and activities which were designed for managers and leaders to use with their teams to generate discussions and develop action plans.

Resources to help support personal relationships

This package of training materials can be used to develop the skills and knowledge needed to support people who draw on services with personal relationships. They were developed with Supported Loving and are intended to be used by social care training providers and in-house training departments of social care employers.

Webinar: LGBTQ+ Good and best practice

Delivered in partnership with The Outstanding Society, this webinar includes representatives from the new OUT Standing Diversity Forum and the University of Strathclyde, sharing recommendations, advice and examples from adult social care services. It looks at how services can treat people as individuals, celebrate diversity, and support the wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community within your service.

Coming soon: LGBTQ+ learning framework toolkit

This toolkit complements the LGBTQ+ learning framework by providing further guidance and suggested learning activities for organisations wishing to get started or to strengthen their commitment to LGBTQ+ affirmative care. It draws on best practice examples from organisations active in this area which demonstrate how engagement with the learning framework is informing change.

The toolkit is scheduled to launch in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on our enews and social media for updates.
